Canine Bloat
Bloat, stomach torsion or twisted stomach.
Canine Bloat, also known as Gastric Dilatation and Volvulus (GDV), is a life-threatening disorder most commonly seen in large, deep-chested dogs.
Most Common Symptoms
- Sudden abdominal distension (a visibly swollen or tight belly)
- Unproductive retching (trying to vomit but nothing comes up)
- Excessive drooling
- Restlessness or pacing
- Signs of pain
- – whining, panting, guarding the abdomen
- Rapid or shallow breathing
- Pale gums
- Weakness or collapse
- Anxious or distressed behavior
- Rapid heart rate
Less Obvious Signs
- Looking at or biting at the abdomen
- Stretching with the front end down and rear end up
- Lack of appetite (despite appearing nauseous)
