Recognizing a Pet Emergency

Not all emergencies are easy to see. To help you determine whether your pet needs urgent care, we’ve created this list. This is by no means comprehensive, but we have included some of the most common emergency cases that occur.

  • Blunt force trauma (such as being hit by a car)
  • Suspected broken bones
  • Bleeding from the nose, eyes, ears, or mouth (suggests internal bleeding)
  • Vomiting or diarrhea for more than 24 hours
  • Blood in vomit, urine, or stool
  • Disorientation or confusion
  • Seizures
  • Bufo toad encounter
  • Signs of heatstroke (excessive panting/drooling, stupor, collapse, rapid pulse)
  • Ingestion of a toxic substance

If you notice any of these signs, it’s time to call us for emergency pet care or visit our emergency referral hospital for after-hours cases.

Emergency Care

After our hospital closes, we refer patients to the Veterinary Emergency and Referral Center (VERC). They provide 24-hour emergency and critical care services.
