Making Pet Dental Care a Priority for Honolulu Pets

Making Pet Dental Care a Priority for Honolulu Pets

Nope, “dog breath” isn’t normal. It’s actually a sign of dental disease, which is one of the most prevalent diseases in both cats and dogs. Yet, it is entirely preventable. Dental disease not only affects your pet's mouth; it can cause damage to internal organs that can seriously affect their overall health and well-being. Our veterinarians believe your pets deserve better. At Alii Animal Hospital, we offer superior pet dental care services for cats and dogs, including digital dental X-rays, orthodontics, and endodontics with a board-certified veterinary dentist.

Preventing Dental Disease

Preventing this terrible disease requires only three steps.

  1. Bringing in your pet for routine oral hygiene evaluations.
  2. Practicing a consistent dental care plan at home.
  3. Providing routine professional dental care with our veterinarians.

Our Dental Services

Professional dental care services are essential for assessing the presence or progress of disease and doing what we can to prevent or treat it.

Our comprehensive oral health assessment and treatment begins with:

  • Digital dental X-rays to examine the integrity of tooth roots and bone under the gumline. Do you know 60% of the tooth root is under the gumline? That is why it is so important to have full mouth dental X-rays every time we perform a dental procedure.
  • Thorough cleaning of each tooth using a special ultrasonic scaler. This efficiently removes built-up plaque and tartar on each tooth.
  • Polishing of each tooth to help slow future plaque build-up
  • Extractions of broken teeth affected by periodontal disease
  • Orthodontic services such as malocclusion corrections for puppies and kittens

Our veterinarians have advanced training in dentistry and can perform a variety of orthodontic procedures. For more complex endodontic procedures, we rely on our board-certified veterinary dentist who visits us on a quarterly basis.

Pet Dental Care at Home

Think of your own dental hygiene regime. Do you brush your teeth daily? We hope you say yes! That same level of commitment is what your pet needs, too. While it can be difficult to brush their teeth on a daily basis due to busy schedules or uncooperative (to put it nicely) pets, our trained staff will be happy to show you techniques to make the process as smooth as possible. We can also recommend additional dental care products including dental chews, oral gels, dental diets, and more!
