Our Veterinarians

Our veterinarians have extensive experience and a passion for providing the highest level of medicine for Hawaii's pets.

Dr. Joanna Cook, Medical Director

Dr. Joanna Cook was raised in Hawaii, attended Iolani and Punahou Schools and received her Bachelor of Science in animal science at UH-Manoa. She attended Western University in California where she received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. Dr. Cook received additional training at a year-long internship at the highly regarded Wheatridge Animal Hospital in Colorado. She has practiced veterinary medicine in Hawaii since 2014. In addition to Hawaii, she is licensed to practice veterinary medicine in California and Colorado. Her passion for animals began when she was in grade school. Since then, she has been the happy owner of a menagerie of pets and rescue animals from dogs to guinea pigs to rabbits and birds. She is passionate about providing the best care for your dog or cat and informs owners of the various treatment options, including alternative medicine where these have been proven to be effective. She lives in Honolulu with her husband and two sons.

When she is not working at Ali’i Animal Hospital, she is spending time with her family and friends. Her favorite food is her husband’s cooking and chocolate chip cookies from the Cookie Corner.

Shawna Lee, Patient Services Manager

Shawna is a local of Honolulu. Growing up, she only had pet fish, but always loved animals! She attended Oregon State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in zoology with the initial thought to go on to veterinary school. After five years of being a veterinary nurse, she hasn't thought of anything else she would rather be!

Outside of work, she loves to do anything outdoors. She brought over her dog, Samson, from Oregon, who also loves the outdoors. If it's a nice day, you can find them hiking or at the beach, enjoying the Hawaiian sun.
